      Hi

Say I am on a Product Listing page on ecommerce website and I have product tiles which contain images and name/price underneath them. Is it better to wrap the whole product tile (image and name/price) in an anchor tag (linking to their product page) or to wrap the image and the name/price underneath in anchor tags separately (linking to the product page) ?

      thanks

To wrap anchor tags around a product, you'll typically want to create a hyperlink that, when clicked, leads to a page or resource related to the product

A possible answer to this issue could be:

"To effectively wrap anchor tags around a product tile, you should ensure that the anchor tag encloses the entire content of the product tile. This can be done by placing the opening <a> tag at the start of the product tile and the closing </a> tag at the end of it. Here’s a step-by-step approach:

Start with the opening anchor tag before any of the product tile content. Add the href attribute to the anchor tag with the URL you want the user to be directed to when they click the product tile.

Ensure that the anchor tag has display block (display: block;) style applied to it, so it takes up the full tile space. This is important for making the whole area clickable.

Place all the HTML that makes up the product tile between the opening and closing anchor tags. This includes the image, product title, price, and any other information you wish to display.

Close the anchor tag after all the product tile content.
Remember to style the anchor tag to remove any default styling like underlines (text-decoration: none;) and ensure it inherits text colors (color: inherit;), so it blends seamlessly with your product tile design.

Test the implementation across different browsers and devices to ensure the clickable area covers the entire tile consistently."

By wrapping the entire tile in an anchor tag and ensuring the tag is displayed as a block-level element, users will be able to click anywhere on the tile to navigate to the product's detail page.

To wrap anchor tags around a product tile effectively:

Use a parent container for the product tile.
Place the anchor tag within the container.
Ensure the anchor tag covers the entire product tile for accessibility.
Set the anchor's href attribute to the product's page URL.
This approach allows users to click anywhere on the product tile to access more details, improving user experience.

It's generally better to wrap the whole product tile, including the image and name/price, in a single anchor tag. This approach provides a larger clickable area for users, improving the overall user experience and making it easier for them to access the product details.

                  Hi,

In most cases, it's better to wrap the whole product tile (image and name/price) in a single anchor tag linking to the product page. This approach provides a larger clickable area and offers a better user experience, as visitors can click anywhere within the tile to access the product details. It simplifies navigation and ensures consistency in user expectations when interacting with product listings on an e-commerce website.

NOINDEX, FOLLOW on product page - how about images indexing?

Hi, Since we have a lot of similar products with duplicate descriptions, I decided to NOINDEX, FOLLOW most of these different variants which have duplicate content. However, I guess it would be useful in marketing terms if Google image search still listed the images of the products in image search. How does the image search of Google actually work - does it read the NOINDEX on the product page and therefore skip the image also or is the image search completely dependent on the ALT tag of any image found on our site? Thanks!

                    Colons in title tag?

Does Google view the colon as a keyword separator like it does with the pipe (|) character? Currently, our site automatically constructs the title tag based on the page name given by the user.  Long ago, we started using the colon character to visually separate the brand & model of the product from the size, and as a result, all of our title tags have been constructed this way. This was done more to make it easier to read for humans than for search engines.  My question is - should I consider getting rid of the colon from our title tags? To give more info, our website sells tires. So, for any given model of tire, there might be 25-100 different individual sizes.  The tags are constructed as follows:  (brand)(model) : (size).   Here's an example from our site: GENERAL ALTIMAX ARCTIC : 225/45R17 91Q The brand is General Tire, the model is the Altimax Arctic and the size is 225/45R17 91Q Since this entire string really constitutes the full product name, should I remove the colon so that Google views it that way?  Or, since I have used a colon instead of a pipe, will Google simply ignore it and treat the entire string as one keyword phrase?

Break in H1 tag - big, small or no problem?

Hi, I've just taken on a new ski client who offers ski instructor courses. The landing page for the keyword [ski instructor courses] was created by the web agency but with no heading tags... http://www.snowrehab.com/ski-instructor-courses Subsequently they've put them in but I've noticed the H1 tag has a break in it where 'ski' is on a separate line to 'instructor courses' Is this an issue that need to be addressed? Also I can't look up the page in the Moz on-page grader - any ideas why? Many thanks! Richard

Best way to nofollow affiliate links?

I don't "nofollow" affiliate links but I have quite a few. Doing them one by one would just be an impossible job. Would it be best to get a plugin that nofollows EVERYTHING? What would google prefer? I need to DOFOLLOW some links because those sites deserve it.

Blog on Subdomain vs. Subdirectory - Best Practices

Hi, I have recently been told that it no longer impacts authority or rankings if a blog is set up on a subdomain (blog.domain.com) rather than a subdirectory (/blog). However, I am reluctant to do so because I remember learning how blog subdomains did not adhere to SEO best practices. Would anyone be able to shed some light on the latest SEO best practices regarding this topic? Many thanks, Erin
